Located in the beautiful surroundings of Noss Mayo, The Swan Inn is a favourite of locals and visitors alike, boasting a popular menu, fine ales and live music events.
Since taking over the Swan, Kevin and Denise were keen to refresh the current website, provided by the pub's company, in order to reflect the inn's new character and communicate their ongoing development with news and updates functionality. They also felt it important to be able to market their live music events and offer table booking for their increasingly busy restaurant hours.
Initially, the challenge was that the website offered by the venue's pub company was a non-mobile responsive, one page website with crude and amateur layout and design; not at all representative of the beautiful inn or its environment. With a profile on tripadvisor, the inn needed a website that would draw customers to Noss Mayo as an enjoyable day trip, and ultimately, draw them to The Swan Inn as a place to enjoy a meal, a drink and the beautiful scenery that is visible from the inn's outside seating area.
In addition, Kevin and Denise found it incredibly difficult to alter the content that existed on their current website. There was no functionality that allowed them to effectively market their beautiful location, live music events, news and updates on the pub's extensive refurbishments or even their menu. Table booking was an impossibility.
As busy pub owners, Kevin and Denise felt they needed a website that offered easy and time-effective access and administration as wel as extensive functionality such as a gallery function that would not only boast the pub's interior, but also the beautiful surroundings and views, a live events section, online food menus and table booking functionality. As a 'cherry on top', they were keen to add a humorous 'dog blog' for their beloved pub dog, Buster, who has become a much loved mascot for the The Swan Inn.
Using the colours of the inn to communicate the personality of the pub against a base white background gives the website a fresh but inviting atmosphere. The Swan logo and tag line rests inside the pub's colours against an atmospheric, black and white image header, communicating the old and rustic nature of the river's views, as seen from the Swan.
The home page scrolls smoothly to offer customers a range of navigation options, depending on what they are most interested in, most notably, viewers will notice a section that boasts of Noss Mayo's beautiful walks and woodland, providing an attractive incentive for customers to visit, and linking to a categorised image gallery offering insight into the pub and the surrounding walks. Of course, Buster's latest blog also features.
The food menus are slick and smooth scrolling, separated into neat categories and offer a quick 2 click table booking system, even for those viewing the website while on the move with their mobile devices.
In addition, Live Events for the Swan are separated into Sport and Music categories, with further categorisation if Kevin and Denise decide to do so. The events updates not only offer extensive design features within themselves, such as images, headers and even videos, but they also offer immediate social network sharing, meaning that once they have posted the event on their website, they can choose to further spread the word using a one-click share, or even use autoposting to their networks. Customers can also subscribe to the listings, for immediate notification in their emails!
The Swan Inn now boasts a website that reflects the character of the venue, the beautiful surroundings and even their beloved mascot canine, but most of all it reflects the personality of its owners who are warm, inviting and excited to share what's happening at their inn.
The website is fully mobile responsive, offers easy food menu visibility, table booking and updates for live events and news. Most importantly, the site administration can be carried out on the front end of the website with a simple log in and "click to edit" functionality. Perfect for the busy owners of The Swan Inn.
